Monterey Veterans Transition Center (VTC)
In order to achieve the objectives for the Monterey Veterans Transition Center additional transitional unit’s project we will employ the methods outlined below. We have confidence in these methods, as they have been tested and proven successful by two of our fellow nonprofit organizations whose client populations are the homeless and Veterans. Representatives of both organizations served as advisers to us as we developed this pilot project. We have also prepared a detailed timeline, which is included in this proposal.
          Since its inception, the Monterey Veterans Transition Center (VTC) has assisted homeless veterans to effectively transition to and maintain permanent housing by offering intensive and comprehensive case management services and programs. No additional time is needed for program implementation because residents currently participate in transition programs. Your contribution to the VTC will provide 75 chronically homeless and senior veterans with temporary housing and wrap-around supportive care. Since the closing of Fort Ord in 1993, most buildings were left unoccupied. With Monterey's current housing crisis, members of VTC began working to obtain some of the former Army housing and buildings in the hope of restoring them and using them to better the lives of homeless veterans. Two sections of property from the former Fort have been obtained for these purposes. The first is several houses in the Patton Park area, which once served as military housing and will serve as the extension of VTC's transitional housing program.
