Question: How will it affect a plants growth if there is know microorganisms in the plants soil?
Hypothesis: Without microorganisms the plant will not grow well due to know microorganisms to break up soil and provide aeration to help the plant with its development.
Materials:
· Dirt (about 2 cups)
· Seeds (Garden Bean)
· Water
· Container (2 Medium)
Procedures:
· Take 1 cup of dirt; put it into the oven on 300°F until it dries. (This will kill microorganisms). Manipulated variable
· Leave the other aside as. Control variable.
· Once dirt is done baking put baked dirt in a container and put the non-baked dirt into another container.
· Plants 3 seeds in each cup. Put them about 1 inch below dirt. Then cover.
· Add only enough water for the plants (about 4 TBS) in each container.
· Treat both plants the same; amount of water, temperature, light, ect.
· Then mark on the cup weather the soil contains microorganisms or does not.
· Continue adding water each day for 3 weeks and record the plants growth, and anything else that is important such as number of plants that grew, ect.
